Care of Mia Mélange cotton products

♥︎♥︎♥︎

Please note that all Mia Mélange products are handcrafted and variances may occur. No two products will be exactly the same. Dimensions, shapes, stitching and colouring may vary slightly. Their baskets are made of rope, which is a textile. A textile is a flexible material made by creating an interlocking network of yarns. This means that baskets are flexible, and they are not as rigid as wicker, wood, plastic, metal or any other non-flexible material. With proper care, baskets will maintain their shapes. Please note that when Mia Mélange packs their products, they often fold them. Due to the products being made from rope, it is easy to bend the products back to their original shape. If your basket becomes ‘floppy’ over time, reshape the basket by shaking it out and firmly stuffing the basket with blankets, towels or pillows. Please see the care videos below. When using Mia Mélange products to hold pot plants, please be sure to use a waterproof pot without holes at the bottom, or alternatively please place a tray in the cotton planter underneath the pot plant. The cotton planters are NOT waterproof.

HOW TO CLEAN 100% COTTON ROPE & JUTE ROPE PRODUCTS:

♥︎♥︎♥︎

To clean dirt and scuff marks off the cotton, rub with the adhesive side of broad scotch tape, or gently spot clean with a wet cloth and mild hand wash soap. It is best for the cotton rope not to get wet. It is, however, possible. For the best results if the product does need to be washed, please hand wash gently. It is also possible to machine wash the products on a cool cycle. Please ensure the product dries evenly. Because of the thickness of the cotton rope, the product may dry slightly yellow. In this case, rewash the product and ensure that it dries evenly and as fast as possible. Please see the machine-washing videos below.

HOW TO CLEAN WITHOUT WATER & SOAP

Please watch the video below to learn how to clean cotton rope baskets, cotton rope bags, planters, placemats and more, without using water or soap!

HOW TO MACHINE-WASH SMALLER PRODUCTS

♥︎♥︎♥︎

When machine-washing Mia Mélange products, please wash on a cool cycle (max 30 degrees Celsius). For smaller products, use a faster spin option. Reshape the products after washing. For larger products, use a slower spin option. Make sure that the products dry as fast as possible. For products made from dyed cotton rope, Mia Mélange recommends that the dyed rope does not get wet. Dyed rope may run when wet. If the product does need to be washed, test one part of the dyed rope before completely wetting the product. Please wash gently with cold water and ensure that it dries evenly and as fast as possible.

Please note that when Mia Mélange pack their products, they often fold them. Due to the products being made from rope, it is easy to bend the products back to their original shape.

MAINTAINING THE BASKET'S SHAPE:

♥︎♥︎♥︎

Mia Mélange’s baskets are made from a textile material, which is flexible, resulting in the possibility of the basket changing shape with use over time. It is, however, possible to reshape the basket by shaking it out and firmly stuffing the basket with throws, blankets, towels, pillows or even laundry. Please see the video below:
For the large baskets and laundry baskets, please ensure not to place items such as clothing or towels on top of the baskets. Extra weight may cause the basket to sag. See the video to see how to reshape the basket. Please make sure that wet laundry is not stored in the cotton baskets.

HOW TO CLEAN MULTIFILAMENT POLYPROPYLENE OR POLYESTER ROPE PRODUCTS:

♥︎♥︎♥︎

To clean products made from multifilament polypropylene or polyester rope, rub with the adhesive side of broad scotch tape, or spot clean with water and mild soap or hand wash separately. For the best results if the product does need to be washed, please hand wash gently. It is also possible to machine wash the smaller rope products. Please ensure the product dries evenly. These products are made from South African sourced multifilament polypropylene. The rope is carefully sewn together in a coiling technique.
